April – June topic: ‘Geography of Japan’
Japan Club is a live, online club for curious kids aged 8–14 who want to learn about Japan, it’s culture and the Japanese language.
In our first two blocks here in the Story STEAM Academy, the ORIGINAL fun, engaging and interactive Japan Club with Hannah, we will explore the fascinating geography of Japan. Through maps, stories, games and creative challenges, each session focuses on a different aspect of Japan’s physical and human geography – such as mountains, volcanoes, earthquakes, population, weather, regional culture, transport and sustainability.
Children will develop their understanding of key geographical concepts by comparing Japan to their own locality, learning how Japan’s location and landscape shape everyday life. From the snowy mountains of Hokkaido to the high-speed trains of Tokyo, participants will discover what makes each region unique while building map skills, critical thinking, and a sense of global awareness.
As well as different topics each term, members of Japan Club will have the opportunity to learn the Japanese language from the pre-recorded tutorials and then practise during live sessions if they would like to. There’s never any pressure, it’s all about a shared interest in Japan and the community.

How It Works
🔸 Pre-recorded Sessions
Each week begins with a pre-recorded video. Watch anytime – before or after the live session – as many times as you like.
🔸 Join the Live Online Session
Children meet in a small group (max 10) every Tuesday at 2pm (BST) during term time. These interactive sessions are a chance to ask questions, interact, connect and learn along with others.
🔸 Friendly, Flexible and Fun
Cameras should be on at the start of each live session to help everyone feel part of the group. Every child has the chance to share their learning and practise Japanese if they would like to.
🔸Share pictures or videos of your children’s learning for the gallery – these will appear in the pre-recorded session for feedback and to inspire others.
🔸All pre-recorded videos will remain available for as long as you’re a member, gradually building into a growing library of Japanese language tutorials and activities that you can revisit or catch up on at any time.
